Who We Are

Medics Without Borders is an emerging network of medical professionals and social workers who seek to further the field of end-of-life and hospice/palliative care services in Ghana. We do provide care and comfort to the terminally sick, the dying person and provide support services to grieving families whose loved ones face emminent death. In other words, we deliver services to the seriously ill, provide relief from pain, improve quality of life, support families and friends of the sick, assist patients with difficult decision-making associated with advance directives, and help families to deal with trauma, grief and loss.

Medics Without Borders is a non-profit organization that began providing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training and health education programs in Ghana in 2008. It was founded by Adomako Adjapong, a Ghanaian-born American who is a Health Services Administrator. His experience in the medical field includes Emergency Medicine, Eye Care and Surgical Assisting. From the beginning, Medics Without Borders, Ghana focused on providing health education in the country by focusing on interest groups who have direct access to and influence on large audiences. It soon became clear that it does not only take "education" to create awareness in preventing diseases but active participation in delivering effective and efficient healthcare services and products to the poor in rural communities in Ghana. Improving the health status of the rural population demanded a multi-pronged approach, as important mental health and socio-economic factors that determine good health status must also be addressed. Palliative Care services have taken center stage in our operations due to the nature of cases we have identified during our daily encounter with patients.

Medics Without Borders is also committed to the creation and development of vibrant and progressive rural communities where everyone is assured of easy access to quality healthcare, mental health, counseling services, good education for their children, and an opportunity for socioeconomic development. In the course of time, the organization has acquired impressive records in health education and the delivery of healthcare services in some rural communities in Ghana.
